BCA Part 3.12 Energy Efficiency - Assessment & Reporting - Open-House
Current at: 18 March 2010
WHY OFFER THIS WORKSHOP?
- BCA 2010 Part 3.12 Energy Efficiency has a WA Variation referencing BCA 2009 Energy Efficiency provisions.
- Local Government Building Surveyors are asking for the 2009 Glazing Calculator Add-Ons Common Practice Solution to be used for compliance reporting.
- BCA 2009 Energy amendments change the way parts of the assessment are done.
- 5-Star Plus reporting can now be done without the need for a separate report.Technical support calls suggest Building Professionals will benefit from a workshop that provides the opportunity to discuss the assessment of more complex residential construction.
WHAT WILL PARTICIPANTS LEARN?
After this session participants will be able to:
- Use the updated Glazing Calculator Add-Ons worksheet for compliance assessment.
- Assess borrowed ventilation and use the Air Movement Datasheet to report compliance.
- Use the Ceiling Insulation Area Common Practice Interpretation to assess the ceiling insulation area loss, use the Ceiling Insulation Datasheet to calculate the area of insulation lost when recess lights and exhaust fans are installed and report the adjusted Minimum Added (Roof) Insulation required.
- Use the Roof Light Datasheet to assess a roof light, use the Roof Light Common Practice Solution to verify its thermal performance and report compliance.
- Assess any extra-over increase to the Added Insulation R-Value that occurs when wall and/or roof cavities are filled with insulation.
- Use the updated Compliance Report for 5-Star Plus (WA Additions) Reporting.
WORKSHOP LEADER
James Bertram established the As-Built Learning Exchange (ABLE) to provide compliance and workmanship support for people working in the WA building industry.
He developed the Glazing Calculator Add-Ons and in 2009 was engaged by Building Commission to review the draft BCA2010 6-Star provisions.
LEARNING PHILOSOPHY
ABLE Workshops are designed to develop “communities-of-practice” where individuals with similar roles and responsibilities share their experiences and learn from each other.
ACTIVITIES
In this Open-House Workshop the updated tools will be demonstrated and participants will have the opportunity find answers to current building project issues.
A brief overview of BCA 2009/2010 Energy amendments will be followed by:
- Solving borrowed ventilation and self-ventilating spaces and reporting outcomes.
- Assessing ceiling insulation area loss, reporting changes to Added Insulation R-value, light fitting options and reporting nominated light fitting types to manage risk.
- Assessing and reporting Roof Light compliance.
- Roof and wall Added Insulation R-Value affected by the loss of air gap R-Value.
- Completing the revised Compliance Report.
- Demonstrating and/or explaining participant issues.
