Individual Responsibility

ABLE defines a Building Professional as an individual who is earning their living in the building and construction industry.

ABLE chooses to resource Building Professionals who are willing to exchange their earning-and-learning experiences with other Building Professionals.

Whilst ABLE resources support the development of a better flow of information and better work practices, they do not replace individual Building Professional responsibility.

ABLE resources are designed to inform better decision-making.   In the course of their normal working day, Building Professionals may identify compliance and workmanship issues for which a better local practice understanding is needed. ABLE encourages Building Professionals to exchange their discoveries and insights.

It remains the responsibility of the individual to seek out the knowledge and understanding that is appropriate to the building work they have contracted to deliver.

Regulator, Supplier, Builder and Building Professional

Within the building and construction industry, building companies, design practices, suppliers and regulators exchange information. Within each building company, there are individual Building Professionals working internally who describe (document, quantify, etc) the Building Work that needs to be done. They exchange information between one another and with other Building Professionals who are working externally and who approve, resource or build the Building Work (regulators, supervisors, suppliers, tradespeople and contractors).

As shown by the flowchart, the resulting process can be divided into four quadrants. At each step, individuals in different Service Delivery Roles use established operating systems to make in-the-moment decisions that affect the usefulness of the information that is handed to the next person in the process. This process is made more complex when, within each of the quadrants, individuals working within different organisations (builders, regulators, tradespeople suppliers and contractors) exchange information.

Better outcomes are achieved when there is a common understanding between individuals and across organisations.

Learning and Exchange

The proposition which underpins ABLE is that sharing in-the-moment experiences is a smarter way to learn what each of us needs to know and understand.

As Building Professionals ask questions and share their individual user experiences, Local Practice Projects can begin to emerge, and with Project Contributor support they can lead to the development of useful new Local Practice Resources.

If you are willing to exchange your earning-and-learning experiences with others then ABLE is willing to resource your in-the-moment decision-making.
