Users accept the Conditions of Use that apply to As-Built Learning Exchange (ABLE) material.


Disclaimer

The purpose of materials within ABLE is to provide Building Professionals with a guide as to the application of the Building Code of Australia, Australian Standards and Manufacturer Directions (Codes and Directions) to building practices in Western Australia.

The materials put forward are a guide only and may not apply in every instance.

Building Professionals must familiarise themselves with Codes and Directions.

The publisher gives no undertakings, guarantees, or warranties concerning the accuracy, completeness or fitness for purpose of any material.

To the maximum extent permissible by law, the publisher excludes liability for loss suffered by any person or entity resulting in any way from the use of or reliance upon material published on this website.


Building Professional

Building Professional means individuals (natural persons) who earn their living in the Western Australian building and construction industry by undertaking hands on activities involved in the preparation of proposals, plans and supporting documentation and the corresponding and subsequent operational practices connected with building and construction work.

Copyright remains in force for materials downloaded from this website.

Learning Access refers to the rights that Building Professionals are granted to read, download and print materials from this website for the purpose of personal learning and professional development. Building Professionals will be asked to Register before downloading material. Learning Access does not extend beyond personal use.

Resource Use Rights refers to the permission agreement that building companies, design practices, assessor businesses, building surveyor practices, suppliers and other entities must enter into before using ABLE material. Resource Use Rights do not exist without prior agreement. Registration does NOT grant permission for business or other uses. Any such use, prior to entering into a Resource Use Rights agreement, is a breach of copyright..

Open Exchange

This is the underpinning operating protocol that ABLE has chosen to use.

Open Exchange means that Local Practice Resources will be published on the ABLE website, that Building Professionals are granted Learning Access to published material, and that entities other than those who contributed to the development of a resource may be granted Resource Use Rights.


Local Practice Resources

Local Practice Resources refer to material published on the ABLE website under the Compliance & Workmanship Information, Recognised Local PracticeAcceptable Local Practice and Building Process headings.


Limit of Application

Local Practice Resources can only be used in Western Australia, only apply for the Building Code of Australia Volume 2 for Class 1 and 10 Buildings (BCA), and are only valid for the nominated BCA edition.

Additional conditions that apply to the use of specific material are noted on that material.


Currency of Material

The Building Code of Australia is amended every year, Australian Standards, Manufacturer Directions and the like change over time, errors in existing ABLE material can be discovered, and new issues continually emerge. Building Professionals must familiarise themselves with the BCA, Australian Standards and Manufacturer Directions to ensure the material they are using is currently applicable.

Once published, Local Practice Resources are only amended if:

  • Subsequent BCA amendments do not affect the material, or
  • Local Practice Project support and resources are in place to undertake the required research, obtain expert evidence and/or update the material content, or
  • Editorial changes/improvements are made that do not affect the technical content.

 The Amendment Register explains the version protocol used for ABLE material and provides indicative descriptions of amendments made to published material.


Privacy Policy

ABLE acts to provide useful resources for Building Professionals in exchange for learning about their at-work experiences and issues. This exchange works best when the people contributing their at-work experiences know that their personal and business details will remain confidential.

ABLE values individual and business privacy.

Individual information provided to ABLE will only be used for the purpose of contacting that person notifying that person of new information and resources. It will not be intentionally released, sold, rented or shared unless required by a Government agency by law.

Generic user information will be used to better understand how resources are being used, and to demonstrate to Project Contributors how ABLE resources are being used.

Personal, business, building site or other specific details provided to ABLE will not be intentionally released.
